About the Projects
Building new state of the art hospitals in Europe and in the United Kingdom and Europe
What is planed for the UNITED KINGDOM?
In 2023 we have started with the project of building the chain of hospitals in the United Kingdom.
The plans for the new hospitals in the United Kingdom are on hold due to issues with previous and current government. Our plan was to build 12 new hospitals to transform the current (non)care for patients in certain region around the United Kingdom. The founding would be completely covered by the Zdenko Kos Foundation.
It is well known that in 2019 Conservative manifesto committed to building 40 new hospitals which should be completed between 2021 and 2030. After 14 years of Conservative party in government only 6 were renovated.
Since the new government (Labour Party) is in place, the new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer confirmed in January 2025 for the first time that 40 hospitals will be built by 2030 as part of a package worth £3.7 billion, with 8 further new schemes invited to bid, delivering on the government’s manifesto commitment.
After carefully consideration from where the new government are getting the funds for this purpose, we believe that 40 new hospitals planed by new government just will not be happening therefore, it is imperative that Foundation step in and make things happen with Foundation plan to build 12 a new state of art hospital on their own if the UK government will finally give us confirmation that they will approved our plans.
What is planed for EUROPE?
In 2023 we have started also with the project of building the chain of 42 hospitals in Europe.
The plans for the new hospitals in Europe are underway. Starting with preparation for 2 hospitals in Italy (Venice and Trieste) is currently underway.
The hospital in Slovenia (Ljubljana) on hold. Instigated and funded by the Z Kos Foundation, their founder started with his request directly to the top and addressed it to the Slovenian government. There did not appear to be much enthusiasm to let Z Kos do something like this. The Kos architects required a minimum 30,000m² of land for a 1103 bed hospital of with special department for caner patients with 66 beds of 1103 beds and in addition 10,000-20,000m² nearby for hospital staff accommodation.
Completely different reply Zdenko Kos Foundation received from the government in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and also Spain.
In the above named countries the adequate government departments even suggested where they would like to be build due to their local needs. Such approach is very constructive as we have to be aware how long normally takes from steps 1to 5 and costs of money is getting higher and higher and as such prices for building are going up with every year lost.
The five steps to build a new hospital are:
- Where to build the hospital
- Getting the site ready
- Designing the hospital
- Getting planning consent
- Start building the hospital
The length from 1-5 could be 3 years even to start with building.

Be Part of Research enables you to find and take part in a range of health and care research.
Health research helps to discover new and better ways to treat diseases, improve the jobs of health workers and the quality of care across the country.
Anyone can take part in research whether you have a health condition or not. We can arrange to take part in research at a local hospital, GP practice – or even at home.
It's easy to get involved. Simply sign up online and choose the health conditions you are interested in. You will be sent details of approved studies that match your interests to decide if you want to take part.
